At Yellow Bridge Therapy Center we know that when emotions are high it’s hard to think clearly. Before we can challenge negative thoughts the body and emotions have to settle first.
For clients who value their faith we may use gospel music like God’s Got a Blessing (With My Name On It) by Norman Hutchins as a tool to help regulate emotions. Music helps slow down emotional intensity and interrupt negative thought patterns.
Once emotions are more regulated clients are able to think differently and respond instead of react. This allows therapy work to be more effective.
We don’t use music to ignore pain. We use it to help clients stay grounded while doing the work. When faith is important to a client we treat it as a strength and integrate it intentionally alongside therapy.
